Board of Directors


Tom Bloomfield, Chairman:
 
A founding Board member of BALT, Tom is a third generation East Contra Costa farmer.  He also serves on the County Agricultural Advisory Task Force and the Contra Costa Resource Conservation District Board of Directors.  Tom farms over 200 acres of wine grapes, 400 acres of alfalfa, and 10 acres of cherries.  He and his wife, Rebecca, produce wine under their own label, Bloomfield Vineyards.  The Bloomfields are also co-owners of the CoCo County Wine Store in Brentwood.

Sheila Hagan, Vice-Chairman:  Sheila, also a founding BALT Board member, is the third generation of the Bacchini family to farm in Brentwood.  She and her husband, Ken, grow cherries, peaches, apricots, walnuts and blackberries and operate the Bacchini Fruit Tree farm stand and u-pick.  Sheila is a manager for Microsoft, and is currently in the MBA program at the University of California, Davis.

Tom Powers, Treasurer:  Tom, a lawyer and former four-term member of the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors (1976-1990), currently farms 50 acres of wine grapes and olives in the Alahmabra Valley in Central Contra costa County.  He is currently the chairman of the Contra Costa County Agricultural Advisory Task Force and the Chairman of the Contra Costa Wine Grape & Olive Growers Association.

Janet Caprile, Director:  Janet has been the UC Cooperative Extension Farm Advisor in Contra Costa County of 18 years.  The focus of her research and extension work has been promoting sustainability among the wide diversity of growers.  Janet has also served on numerous local task forces to encourage agricultural viability and resolve agricultural-urban interface issues.  She is currently the Vice Chair of the Contra Costa County Agricultural Advisory Task Force.

Len Del Chiaro, Director:  Len is a third generation East Contra Costa farmer.  He currently farms cherries at DC's Extraordinary Cherries and Seko Ranch Cherries that are market both wholesale and through u-pick operations and farmers' markets.
