Part-time Agricultural Marketing Associate Position
Title: Agricultural Marketing Associate
Location: Pleasant Hill , Contra Costa County
Hours: 15 hours a week
Salary: $18.00 an hour
Start Date: February 15th 2008
Organization: The Brentwood Agricultural Land Trust is a non-profit organization in Contra Costa County that works with farmers and the community to ensure that future generations in the Bay Area have a local source of food. The Brentwood Agricultural Land Trust preserves prime farmland in East Contra Costa County and works with the community to build a vibrant agricultural economy. As part of our regional agricultural marketing campaign, BALT is the County Coordinator for the Buy Fresh Buy Local campaign.
Description of the position: Work with BALT to build partnerships with farmers, restaurants, retailers, institutional partners and local businesses. The Regional Marketing Associate will work closely with the Board and Executive Director to build a regional marketing plan for Contra Costa farm products. Over the coming six months, the Regional Marketing Associate will focus on building regional marketing partnerships with retails, restaurants and institutional purchasers, organizing outreach events and providing organizational and administrative support to the regional marketing project.
Essential responsibilities:
· Sign up farmers, retailers, farmers markets, restaurants, and other purveyors of food who join Buy Fresh Buy Local and display the label and educational information.
· Participate in the production of a print and web-based Contra Costa Local Food Guide and marketing materials.
· Organize outreach events (i.e. farm tours, farmers market events, lunches on farms).
· Provide organizational and administrative support for regional marketing project.
· Participate in regional fundraising efforts.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Excellent written and oral communication skills.
· Ability and willingness to contact people unknown to you to promote local agriculture.
· Ability to perform a variety of administrative and organizational tasks with attention to detail.
· Flexibility to work independently and communicate effectively with other team members.
· Reliable transportation and willingness to travel around the Bay Area.
· Ability and willingness to work in diverse of cultural and political communities.
· Willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Desired Qualifications:
· Knowledge and experience working with farm and food distribution systems.
· Knowledge and experience in agricultural marketing and sales.
· Knowledge of farming in East Contra Costa County.
· Knowledge of Bay Area restaurant and food retailers.
· Experience in publicity, outreach and event planning.
